Obituary

Nancy D. “Monastra” Cathey 1932 -2021
88, of North Canton went home to be with the Lord Feb. 19, 2021. Nancy was born in Canton, Ohio on March 25, 1932 to Nick and Rose Monastra. She was a graduate of Greensburg High School class of 1950. She was a stay-at-home mom the majority of her life but once her kids were older she was employed by London’s Candies and Berean Christian Book Store. She was also a long-time member of Grace Brethren Church. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was the greatest mother, grandmother, neighbor, church member and friend. She was quiet and kind but was the ultimate warrior when it came to taking care of her family, particularly during illnesses or injuries. Her family lovingly referred to her as “Nancy Nurse” as that was the role in which she truly shined. She was also an amazing baker, making 26 pies on Thanksgiving to make sure everyone had their favorite. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Richard, who was her high school sweetheart from the time she was 15. Also preceded in death by her brother Nick, sisters Ann, Antonio and Paulina. She is survived by her kids, Rick (Florence) Cathey Jr. of North Canton, Gary (Kim) Cathey of North Canton, Terry (Melanie) Cathey of Arvada, CO, Tom (Carrie) Cathey of Broomfield, CO, Bob (Kelly) Cathey of North Canton and Patty (Brad) Harcourt of North Canton; grandchildren, Becky, Pammy, Jenny (Jim), Jaime (Matt), Stephanie, Lindsey (Zach), Lauren, Jenny (Ryan), Aaron, Jacob, Nicholas, Bradley and Caitlyn; great grandchildren Zach, Ashley, Thane, Harrison, Serafina, Melina, Evan, Kaira, Addie and Baby Smith (Due July). A celebration of life for Nancy will be held at a later date.
