Florence Cox, age 102, died peacefully March 13 as family and friends bid goodbye to their funny feisty friend.
Born into a large and lively family in Cleveland, Ohio she met and married her childhood sweetheart the late Bernie Cox. When opportunity knocked they moved their young family to Canton in the 1950s. Florence and Bernie were married for 64 years and were best friends.
Florence and her husband raised five gregarious children in Canton. She is survived by her dear Georgia (Tom), Mary Wilson (Voss), Warren, and daughter-in-law Michelle. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Ginny (Mark) and Betsy and one infant son, James. She was also the proud Nonny of Gus (Heather), Maggie, Danny, Katie and Zapata; and Aunt Florencie to her many beloved nieces and nephews.
Blessed from early childhood with an uncanny gift for friendship, she enjoyed that talent to the fullest from great conversations to letter writing to just sharing time together. When she reached the age of 100, she would kid that she had accumulated so much wisdom she wanted everyone to know she would be available "any hour of the day or night" to dispense knowledge and advice.
Only half serious about doling out advice, one frequent pearl of wisdom, "Rise above it," was something she aimed for at the end (as much as possible).
Per her wishes there will be no immediate services. Instead, a memorial gathering, to be announced, will be held in the Spring.
The family would like to thank the staff at Canton Regency AL for their loving care. Memorial contributions can be made to Central Catholic High School in the name of Ginny and Betsy Cox.
