Joseph R. Dryden peacefully passed away January 10, 2019. Joe was born August 18th 1925 in Canton, Ohio the second son of the late Virgil Dryden and Blanche Dryden Newberry. Joe is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jackie Marshall Dryden. Joe is the father and father-in-law of Renee (Ted) Herring of Bedford Heights, Ohio and Randy S. (Gina) Dryden of Yorba Linda, California. Joe has one Granddaughter, Robin L. Bert (Paul) of Stow, Ohio and one Grandson, John Rikley of Los Angeles, California. He has four Great Grandchildren, Christopher, Bradley, Isabella and Natalie and one sister Betty Schneider of Cleveland, OH. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his four brothers, Harold, Glenn, Robert and William Dryden.
Joe graduated from Timken High School in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Marines serving with the 3rd Marine Division in the invasions of Guam and Iwo Jima during World War II.
Joe began his 40 year newspaper career in the Classified Department of the Canton Repository in 1947. Twelve years later Joe was transferred to The Herald Star in Steubenville, Ohio as the
Classified Advertising Manager. For 22 years prior to retiring in 1987, Joe was the Publisher and General Manager of first, The Weirton Daily Times, Weirton, West Virginia then the Evening
Review, East Liverpool, Ohio, and lastly retiring from the Fitchburg Leominster Sentinel and Enterprise of Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Joe worked 20 years for Brush-Moore Newspapers and 20 years for Thomson Newspapers. Joe was an avid golfer and worked part-time at the former Bob O’Link and Sanctuary Golf Club since 1989. Joe accepted Christ and was a worshiper at Bethel Church in Canton, Ohio. He was a wonderful example of God’s love to his family and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11am at the Reed Funeral Home NORTH CANTON Chapel, 801 Pittsburg Ave. NW. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5pm and one hour prior to the service from 10-11am on Monday at the funeral home.
