John R. (Jack) Ellsworth passed away, peacefully, December 25, 2018 at Aultman Hospital. He was born in Canton, Ohio on July 18, 1927, son of Mildred and Archie Ellsworth.
Jack was preceded in death by his wonderful wife of 49 years, Shirley Ann (Livingston); brothers, Joe and Jim Ellsworth; granddaughter Cara Gordon Bosso;
nephew, Mark Snyder; and special friend, Jean Boreman.
He is survived by children; Pat Gordon, Mansfield, Marsha Botomogno (Jean), Columbus, and Richard (Beth), North Canton. Jack had three loving grandchildren, Bret (Olivia) Gordon, Montgomery, Daniel and Michelle Botomogno, Columbus, as well as, three great-grandchildren; Ella Bosso, Colin and Kennedy Gordon. Jack is also survived by sisters Jean Snyder, Joan (Ken) Morris; brothers Jerry (Nancy) and Walter C. Ellsworth and nieces and nephews.
Jack graduated from North Canton High and immediately joined the Navy. He sailed on the USS General W.A. Mann to Guam where he worked as a Seabee transportation dispatcher with the Naval Construction Battalion. After the war, he returned to North Canton to begin work with the East Ohio Gas Company. He worked for 41 years as an inspector, a job he loved.
Jack loved both working and playing in the outdoors. He enjoyed many vacations to Michigan and Florida, but his favorite place was certainly his summer home of 52 years on Odells Lake.
Friends and loved ones may call Saturday, January 26, 2018 between 11 AM and 1 PM at Reed Funeral Home, 801 Pittsburg Ave. NW, North Canton, Ohio, with a celebration of life service beginning at 1 PM.
