Roy James Jones Sr. went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness at the age of 80. Roy served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1956. Roy worked construction, in the foundry at Canton Malleable Iron and at Ohio Cast. Following his retirement he enjoyed driving for I-Can for several years. Roy was a member of "City Folks for Cooks Pond". He loved to fish, spending time with his friends at Cook's Pond, walking and especially spending time with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie Lee and Essie Mae Jones and his first wife, Eloise (Pearson) Jones. He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 37 years Evelyn (Stonumn) Jones of the home; children, Sheila Jones, Roy Jones of Alliance, Ohio, Veola Mae Jones, Amos Freeman Jones and Samuel J. Butler (Gaylyn) all of Canton, Ohio; 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; two brothers, William (Lois) Jones of Canton, Ohio and Horace (Mary) Smith of Clio, Alabama; special friends "Tub" Tyson and Charles McGhee and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Roy will be greatly missed by all who knew him- he was a special man. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the James S. Thomas United Methodist Church, 3412 Harmont Ave. NE with Pastor Wilma Roberson officiating. Calling hours will be held in the church on Saturday for one hour prior to service from 10 to 11 am. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 1:30 pm in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd. Rittman, Ohio 44270. The Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements. The family will be receiving friends at 864 O'Jays Parkway NE, Canton, Ohio and 1642 Ohio Ave. NE Canton, Ohio.
