Ronald L. "Ron" Matthews, age 63, of Canton passed away Tuesday afternoon at Cleveland Clinic following a brief illness. Born in Wheeling, WV, on Aug. 16, 1940, to Louis J. and Mabel E. (Carson) Matthews. Ron was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from Smithfield High School, class of 1958, and obtained a degree in Automotive Technology from Stark State Technical College. Ron started his career in the automotive industry at Kling Motors, then became an asst. manager of the service department at Eppy's Chevrolet, and finally retiring at Ohio Car and Truck Leasing Co. as a service manager. He was a member of the N. Canton Eagle's Lodge, aerie #2223. Ron loved life and always lived it to the fullest; he was an avid billiard player and enjoyed playing in local leagues. In his younger days, Ron loved water skiing, diving, and many different water sports. Ron is preceded in death by his mother, Mabel. Besides his father, he is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Georgia Matthews of the home, a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Douglas and Sherri Matthews; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Beverly Matthews, all of Columbus, OH; sister and brother-in-law, Jill and Peter Magada of Warren, OH, there are many nieces, nephews, and special friends also surviving. Funeral service will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. James Scalf officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday from 10-11 a.m. in the funeral home.
