James C. Swihart, age 82, of Canton passed away Sunday morning at Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Canton, OH, on Dec. 20, 1921, to the late Clifford and Elizabeth (Moffett) Swihart. Graduate of McKinley High School, class of 1939. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Army Air Corp as an airplane mechanic. He completed his apprenticeship with Poor & Co. as a Die Sinker; following his employment with Poor & Co., Jim worked for Canton Drop Forge. Later, retiring from the Ford Motor Co. after 20 years of service as a forman of Tool and Die Dept. Jim's former membership includes, Canton Amateur Radio Club, Stark Co. Sheriff's Auxiliary; his current membership are Salary Ford Retirees, and as well as, Zion United Methodist Church for over 50 years. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Beverly (Beck) Swihart of the home; three children and their spouses, Kathy and Gary Kane of Magnolia, OH, Susie and Joe Vitale of N. Canton, OH, Jim and Carol Swihart of Charlotte, NC. There are six grandchildren, Shelly (Scott) Everett, Tracy James (Jim Gordillo), Rick (Kristin) James, Joey Vitale, Amy and Ashley Swihart, and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Debra Quillen officicating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Tuesday (Tonight) from 6-9 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to a charitable organization of your choice.
