Gertrude J. Mizer age 95 of Canton, Ohio passed away suddenly August 6, 2004 at the home. Born in Sugarcreek, Ohio on August 25, 1908, she was one of eleven children and was raised by Edward and Lydia Deibel of Strasburg, Ohio. She graduated from Strasburg High School and Canton Actual Business College in 1927. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eliza Tschantz and foster parents, Edward and Lydia Deibel, also by brothers, Ernst, Adolph, Walter and Fred Tschantz and sisters, Hattie, Amelia, Emma, Saloma, Salome and Lillian. She married her high school sweetheart, Warren A. Mizer and celebrated 69 years of marriage before his death June 17, 2003. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1936 and helped many needy folks in her quiet, thoughtful way.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and Harold Yoder of Louisville, OH. and her two sons and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Jeannine Mizer of Canton and William Mizer of Canton. Grandchildren and spouses; Mike and Laura Yoder, Shari and Eldon Brugger, Melanie and Craig Zwick, Julie and David Grasse, Ron and Colleen Mizer. Great grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Sarah and Daniel Yoder, Tiffany, Lindsay, Bethany and Brittany Brugger, Justin Zwick, Evan and Elise Grasse and Natalie Mizer. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife and loving mother. Her kindness to all were only exceeded by her wonderful smile.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church with Dr. John M. Mann officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery in Strasburg, Ohio. There will be calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home on Tuesday evening (tonight) 6-9 p.m. and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
