Edmund R. "Ed" Modowski, age 87 of Jackson Twp., passed away early Friday morning at Aultman Hospital following extended illness. Ed was born in Brooklyn, NY, on September 17, 1919, the son of the late Felix and Antonia (Lyshinsky) Modowski. Ed had attended high school in Brooklyn, NY, received his Bachelor of Science from New York University, and Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Adelphy University of Long Island, NY. Ed was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country during WWII. As a mechanical engineer, Ed had worked for Babcock & Wilcox Co. for over 30 years and 12 years was in the Barberton, Ohio facility. He was a member of Eagles Lodge, aries #2370 of Perry Twp., VFW and American Legion of Navarre, OH, Canton Moose Lodge, North Canton Elk's Lodge, as well as a faithful member of St. Paul's Catholic Church of North Canton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Fay Mastriago. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Mary (O'Toole) Modowski, whom he married in 1956 of the home, a son, Robert (Lori) Modowski of Ashburn, VA, two daughters, Patricia Modowski of Traverse City, MI, Barbara (Edward) Denboski of Uniontown, OH, five grandchildren, Randy Modowski, Kenny Modowski, and Cara Modowski, Jill Denboski, and Julie Denboski, a niece, Wanda (Steven) Gecewicz, and their son Steven Gecewicz Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church of North Canton with Rev. Msgr. James Clarke as celebrant. Entombment will be in the mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel, 801 Pittsburg Ave. NW, N. Canton, OH 44720.
