Mother Dorothy M. Hood was born August 3, 1925 in Gary, Indiana to the late Rev. O.A. and Bertha Johnson. Mother Hood made her transition to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday May 30, 2004 at 3:45 P.M. in the Rose Lane Nursing Home. She was a graduate of McKinley Senior High School and was employed with the Canton City Public Schools where she was a School Monitor. Dorothy was the former hostesses of This Day in Canton on WINW 1520 AM, and possessed a radiant smile that brighten many peoples days. Dorothy was also the inspiration behind the naming ot the Gethsemane Baptist Church here in Canton. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Rev. Charles Richard Hood in 1982, brother, Otis A. Johnson Jr., three infant siblings, nephew, James P. Johnson, and two step-sons, Charles R. Hood Jr., and Theodore "Teddy" Hood. She is survived by her son; Stephen J. Parks, daughter; Deborah (Herman Sr.) Horner, son, Mark (Kim) Hood, all of Canton, grandchildren;Timothy D. Parks, Alisha (Rickey) Parks-Platt, Crystal Frazier, Stephanie Peterson, Carla L. Torrence, Krystal (Rodney) Archer-Johnson, Hermetria (Darnell) Davis, and Mark Hood II, ten great grandchildren, sister Betty Hull of Columbus, OH, two brothers James (Maud) Johnson, and Peter Johnson of Columbia, MD, also numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy is also survived by two step daughters Beatrice (Walter) Cherry, and Eleanor (Arnold) Fry, two step sons, Walter (Zenobia) Hood, and Raymond Hood, and all of their extended families, also survived by the Gethsemane Baptist Church Family. There will be a Home Going Service on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. in the Gethsemane Baptist Church, with burial to follow in North Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday evening from 5-8 P.M. in the Reed Funeral Home.
