Charles Edward Minor Sr., 79 years of age passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014 after a brief illness. Charles was born in Canton, Ohio on December 18, 1934 to the late Henry and Geneva (Minor) Hopkins.
He attended schools in Canton, Ohio and served time in the United States Army. Charles was united in marriage to the love of his life, the late Wanda (Huguley) Minor on September 19, 1953; to this union seven children were born. He was a man who loved and respected his wife and children and always worked hard to provide for them. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and always enjoyed talking to them and giving them some kind of advice. Charles was a man who had a zest for life and he was always surrounded by and had a lot of friends, young and old. He will be greatly missed.
Charles worked for and retired from Whitaker Foundry as a laborer and Nationwide Insurance Co. as a custodian. After his retirement, he went to work part-time for Canton City Schools as a crossing guard.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Geneva (Minor) Hopkins; wife, Wanda (Huguley) Minor; son, Gregory Scott Minor Sr.; grandson, Andre Minor; great-grandson, Markus H. Floyd II; great-granddaughter, Trinity Reign Keith; sisters, Christine Mitchell, Delores Minor, Willie Mae (Joyce) Minor, and Wanetta (Vickie) Minor; brother, George Hopkins; niece, Laurie Reynolds; nephew, Eddie Mitchell; mother-in-law, Lucille (Coney) Huguley; sons-in-law, Terrence Ruffin Sr. and James Fentress; sister-in-law, Mattie B. Coleman; and lifelong friend, Henry Massey.
He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his many memories: children, Chyvonne (Minor) Davidson, Yolanda (Humphries) William Johnson, Ms. Kim M. Fentress, Cathy J. Ruffin, all of Canton; son, Charles E. (Stephanie) Minor Jr. of Canton, and Cherisse A. Minor of Youngstown; 23 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Thomas L. (Jane) Huguley; many nieces, nephews (who he had shared a special bond within his own special way), cousins, special friends, the Massey's, Lestor Strohs, Katherine Turner, and many others who were a great part of his life that he shared good times with.
Services will be held Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 12pm at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church (1909 3rd St. NE Canton 44704) Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 10-12pm. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to 1410 23rd St. NE Canton 44714. Relatives and friends are welcome and will be received at the home of Charles E.
