Arleene D. Wharton, 74, was welcomed with open arms by her heavenly father on April 12, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a loving, devoted wife and a caring and nurturing mother and showed unconditional love for her grandchildren. Her love for being in the kitchen can be attributed to her early start working alongside her father and uncle at The Pines Restaurant which they owned. She became very well-known and respected and loved in the Canton local community for her extensive work for many years with the Canton South Band. Arleene was lovingly referred to by many as “Band Mom”. She was actively involved at Canton Baptist Temple working in the newborn nursery for over 30 years and greatly enjoyed attending Faith Family Church for the past few years. Preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Vera Cunningham; brother, Gary Cunningham and infant brother, Daniel Cunningham. Survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Don; children, Dianna Casto (Larry Adler), Denise Beck (James), and Doug Wharton (Loralynn); six grandchildren, Shawn (Savanna), Ben and David Covert, Sarah Beck, Scarlett and Audrey Wharton; several cousins and many many dear friends. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 12 noon at Faith Family Church. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at the church as well as one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her name to Aultman Compassionate Care Center.
