Mary Izilla "Liz" (Sterling) Zumkehr, age 81, of North Canton, passed away Tuesday. She was born in Crafton, PA. on April 1, 1928 to the late Chester and Ione Ream Sterling. She was the great-great- granddaughter of Philip and Mary (Aultman) Ream, early Stark County settlers, circa 1808. Liz was predeceased by brother, Donald Sterling of Amarillo, Texas. She is survived by her brother, Charles (Janet) Sterling of Vernon, CT., son Kevin (Kim) Zumkehr and grandson Ben Zumkehr of Mason, Ohio, daughter, Mrs. K. Bret (Suzan) Apple of Salem, Ohio, Stephanie (Don) Sterling and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. A graduate of Ohio University, Liz was an artist noted for her portraits as well as landscapes. She loved to travel and walk in the woods for inspiration for her paintings. She served as curator of the Little Art Gallery of the North Canton Library for 20 years. An active member of Friends of the Little Art Gallery, the gallery's support group, she chaired their outdoor sale show for nine years. A charter member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Liz served a term as elder, worked on various committees and projects and sang in the choir. She served her condo association as secretary/treasurer for four terms. A Memorial Service will be conducted Sunday, September 6, 2009 at 3:00p.m. in Northminster Presbyterian Church, 237 West Maple Street, North Canton. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church, Aultman Hospice or Friends of the Little Art Gallery. The Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
