William J. Gannet II, 70, of Canton, Ohio, passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. He was born on May 7th, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio and resided in Litchfield, Elyria, and Grafton, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Mary Lou Gannet. He is survived by his beloved wife Susan (Hebebrand) and sons William III (Cathy) of West Dundee, Illinois and Scott (Jeni) of Massillon, Ohio, two grandchildren, Kendal and Landon, and his cats Cooper and Larry. Also survived by his brothers Mark Gannet of Elyria, Ohio and James Gannet of Salt Lake City, Utah. His kind heart, generosity and witty sense of humor will be greatly missed by all.
William graduated from Elyria High School in 1966 and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966-1970 as an F4 Phantom II crew chief in the 435th Tactical Fighter Squadron. He later earned an Industrial Engineering degree from the University of Akron. He enjoyed a career as a project manager with various construction companies and enjoyed building large scale projects. As a veteran and a caring spirit, he was most proud of the projects he was involved in with military bases and rebuilding post-Hurricane Katrina. He was a Master Mason of Canton McKinley Lodge 431, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite, a York Rite Mason, and Canton Commandery #38, Knights Templar. He enjoyed classic cars, listening to music, watching the Tuslaw Mustangs baseball team and the Starlight dance team, but most of all spending time with his family.
Visitation will be on December 9th between 2-3 pm at Reed Funeral Home 801 Pittsburg Ave NW, North Canton, OH 44720, with a Memorial Service directly following. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Crossroads Hospice for the excellent care they provided.
