Ruth Beverly Kinkema age 80 of North Canton passed away on August 10, 2017. She was born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin January 15, 1937 to the late William and Esther Knilans.
She was preceded in her death by her three brothers, Robert, William and James Knilans.
Ruth graduated from Fort Atkinson High School and went on to graduate from Lacrosse Teacher College in Wisconsin. After graduating she moved to Aurora, Illinois to teach seven years. While there she met her husband Dave and then they moved onto Grand Rapids, Michigan where she taught for a few years before starting their family. She moved to North Canton in 1972 where she raised her children and then went back to teaching elementary school for 20 years. She was selected twice as a teacher to be remembered by two of her former second grade students who were being honored at a ceremony for being one of the top 25 students of the Hoover High Senior Class. She was also honored in 2004, after retiring as one of Stark County person of character.
Ruth was very active during her lifetime, serving as president of the Greentown PTA and volunteering at school to help teachers.
She was an active member of the First Friends Church in Canton where she took her turn as Director of Vacation Bible School, was Child Education Coordinator in the Christian Education program, taught Bible School, Sunday School and worked in the nursery. She was also on the Servants Council and prayer chain. Ruth also worked as a volunteer for the Salvation Army soup kitchen.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory loving husband Dave; son, Dr. Mark Kinkema wife, Janelle and their one daughter, Tyler who lives in Brisbane, Australia; son, Bradley wife, Christina and their three children, Connor, Logan and Zoe all live in Collinsville, VA; daughter, Amy husband, James and their six children, James, Carlin, McKenzie, Mia, Molly and Emily all live in Charlottesville, VA.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 14, 2017 at Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel, 801 Pittsburg Ave. NW North Canton, Ohio 44720 from 5pm to 7pm and on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at First Friends Church, 5455 Market Ave. N. Canton, Ohio 44714 from 10am to 11am with services to follow at 11am with Pastor Stan Hinshaw officiating. Private family burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery.
