Durbin, Mildred M.

April 12, 1930 - May 28, 2017
Born in Clarksburg, WV
Resided in Canton, OH

Mildred M. Durbin, 87, of Canton passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the Compassionate Care Center on the Aultman Woodlawn campus after a brief illness. She was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on April 12, 1930 and was the daughter of Claudius and Marie (Kopp) Moine. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Thelma (Moine) Marra, and husband Donald H. Durbin. She is survived by sons Don Jr. (Melissa) of Winnetka, IL, Richard of Massillon, OH, and grandchildren Sophie, Charlie, Sammy and Freddy of Winnetka, IL, as well as many loving nieces and nephews in West Virginia, Florida, and Maryland.
Millie graduated from Victory High School of Clarksburg, WV where she enjoyed cheerleading, participating in sports and myriad of other activities. After high school, she left West Virginia to work for Braniff Airlines in Dallas, TX, and there she met her beloved husband Don to whom she was married 50 years until his passing in 2007.

After starting their life together in Dallas, Millie and Don moved to Amarillo, TX, Charlotte, NC, Bellwood, IL (a suburb of Chicago), Elk Grove Village, IL (also a Chicago suburb), Youngstown, OH, Dallas again, Canton, OH, Charlotte again, and then back to Canton to retire. In each of these places Millie made many dear friends, keeping in touch with them her whole life.

Millie was always involved in her neighborhoods, and participated in many clubs and activities. Most recently, Millie was a member of the North Canton Elks, and was active in a bridge club and stitchery group. She loved to travel and enjoyed every place she went. She was an avid, longtime Pittsburgh Steelers fan and never missed watching a game. She was well known for her fun Super Bowl parties.

Throughout her life, Millie was always very in touch with the times, an early adopter of technology, loved to stay on top of topical events, and always worked hard to keep up with all her friends and family.

Most of all, Millie cherished time with family and friends, and was most known for being a loving wife, mom, grandma, and aunt. When visiting her grandchildren, she attended all their games, shows and other activities. When they were very young, she was a frequent and favorite babysitter. Even though she did not live close by, she stayed very involved in their lives.

A brief ceremony was held at the chapel at Sunset Hills Cemetery Burial Park at 10:00am on Friday, June 2, 2017. A memorial service and celebration of Millie's life will be held later in the month.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday June 24, 2017 at 1pm at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (3430 St. Michael Drive NW, Canton OH 44718) with Rev. Fr. Don King as celebrant. Burial has already taken place at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
