Eleanor L. "Ellie" Sauers, 91, a resident of the Canton Regency passed away on April 21, 2017. She was born on May 25, 1925 in Massillon and moved with her family to Canton. She graduated in 1943 from McKinley High School and later from Kent State University. She was a teacher for MRDD Students for 5 years and on the board of teachers organizing the first MRDD Workshop in Canton. She taught Special Education Classes in the Perry District for 20 years before retiring. Ellie was rewarded with the Martha Jennings award for excellence in teaching in 1982. Ellie danced with the Granny Apple Dance Group until the age of 71.
Ellie was a member of St. Stephens Martyr Lutheran Church and of the Stark Co. Retired Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Glenn E. Sauers Jr.; father Otto Bergner; mother and step-father Ethel and Raymond Huffman; and great-grandson Bruce CampBell.
Ellie is survived by her children Ray Sauers of Carollton, Teena Miller of Massillon and Randy (Carol) Sauers of Louisville; 7 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Per her request there will only be a private family service.
