Age 96, passed away on April 19, 2017 at the Canton Christian Home. She was born on December 16, 1920 in Harmony, Pennsylvania.
She graduated from Zelienople High School in Zelienople, Pennsylvania. She married her husband, Lester Crooke in 1942. Following his discharge from the Army, they moved to Canton in 1945. She worked for many years with her husband who owned and operated the C&L Market on Sixth Street S.W. Following his death at the age of 53 in 1969, she worked as the secretary at Emmanuel Christian Church for 18 years, retiring in December 1988.
After living in the same home for 60 years where she and Lester raised their two daughters, she became an Independent Resident of the Canton Christian Home in 2008. She enjoyed meeting new friends, playing cards, attending Bible Study, and worship services there.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Lester), and sister (Margaret Schantz).
Survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Jim Renie of Louisville, and Linda and Bob Wasnak of Massillon. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel at the Canton Christian Home with Chaplain Ron Iwanusa officiating. Burial will follow the service at Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bessie's memory may be made to the Benevolent Fund of the Canton Christian Home, 2550 Cleveland Avenue, N.W., Canton, Ohio 44709.
Her family would like to thank all the wonderful workers at the Canton Christian Home who were very loving and kind to Bessie. She said many times that everyone was so friendly and nice, and if she could no longer live in her home, she was glad that she was able to live there.
