Elmer J. Wojcik, 1925-2018, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 surrounded by family at Astoria Nursing Home. Elmer was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 30, 1925 to the late Zygmond and Mary Wojcik, raised in New Philadelphia, Ohio and has resided in Canton for the last 71 years. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre and was recalled for stateside service during Korea. He was employed with Macomber Steel and retired from Conrail Railroad. Elmer was a member of the American Legion Post #44, Polish American Club and played the accordion in several Polka Bands in the Canton area. Preceded in death by his parents; wife Thelma; son Michael; brother John and 5 infant siblings. He is survived by his sons William (Connie) Wojcik, Joseph (Pam) Wojcik and Jamie (Lisa) Wojcik; grandchildren Theresa, James, Jennifer, Jeanine, Matthew, Kevin, Julia, Kimberly and Zachariah; great grandchildren Tristan, Sebastian, Conner, Claire, Gianna and Walter; step great grandchildren Ashton and MacKenzie. A special thank you to Gloria and Mark DiChiara who provided excellent care during his stay at home and also to Mercy Hospice. Funeral service will be at 12 PM on Monday February 12, 2018 at Reed Funeral Home NORTH CANTON CHAPEL with Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Family and friends may visit from 10-12 PM on Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
